We provide an assessment of new technologies in relation to the relevant IP to provide our clients with better control over their patent costs, this way a lot of no longer relevant IP can be dismissed and by that significant amount of money can be save.  Our clients can take comfort in knowing that their IP investments are wise and on target with the client’s strategy.

The hardest part of technology assessment is to know whether or not all of the many aspects that affect the value of an invention have been covered and to make sure the invention is non-obvious with respect to what was previously known in the art.  In order to assess non-obviousness, we perform a methodical analysis based upon a comprehensive set of criteria surrounding the client’s intellectual property (or disclosed technology) such as:

•   Appropriate search of patents and other prior publications

•   Patentability and Patent strength

•   Freedom to operate (FTO)

•   Ability to protect

•   White space

•   Similar (or close) technologies and IP

•   New potential applications to the invention and broadening the IP accordingly

•   An insight to other solutions to same problem or challenge

This methodical analysis of IP landscape identifies gaps in patent coverage. Filling in these gaps can provide commercial benefits in the form of protection of future development or blocking of such development to competitors. This analysis can also identify patents belonging to third parties that can be in-licensed to accelerate development and/or insure freedom to operate. White space studies are extremely effective in guiding the organization through complex patent landscapes.
